Albert Einstein famously wrote, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” We have found it valuable to bring this idea forward in the middle of committee or board meetings that seem to accumulate information at the expense of the organizational vision. That is in order to bring balance to a discussion, for as Einstein continues, “For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” Embedded in this is permission to act in the face of what we don’t, at the moment, know. Cultivate your imagination to seek out and contribute to new knowledge. Use your knowledge to imagine a new future.
